So I have some time right now, its time to write my semester in review. I haven't figured if I want to go chronologically, or just write my thoughts about it. So I may jump around.

Overall rating: Mediocre.

Academically, I'm frustrated with this semseter. Very frustrated. I took fewer credits than I ever have before, all of which are now in a field that I enjoy studying, and yet I did exactly the same. I stepped up the effort that I was putting in on a daily basis, and still I did exactly the same. This wouldn't be a problem if exactly the same was good, however, exactly the same is crap. The same crap thats going to stick me nowhere in life. This semester didn't work out as well as I would have liked in terms of grades.

Marching band gets its own category since it is such a huge part of first semester. It went very, very well. The new director was amazing, and I found myself looking forward to band. The football team sucked ass, going 1 - 11, but that was to be expected. At least now I get home an extra 4 days early instead of going to a bowl trip. Thats what I'll keep telling myself...

Socially things went well. I found myself getting to know a lot of people better that I wasn't too close with at the end of last year. Living in the house has been quite an experience, having people over is one of my favorite things to do, so give me a whole house and I go crazy. I feel like I am more a part of the nich that I have here, rather than being just in a nich. Its a good feeling.

My relationship with Rachel has taken a step back. Shes off doing bigger and better things, which is very good for her. She doesn't need someone like me slowing her down. But in the process, I've taken a notch down in her life, which is good of thats what makes her happy. I just greatly miss the days when she was only 6 floors away, and I saw and hung out with her on a daily basis instead of the sporadic lunches and dinners coupled with the occasional movie and weekend party. I miss just watching TV and doing homework with her. But change is the way of life, and its my job to deal with it.

I'm almost to finals now, and the impending doom that is so hasn't quite set in. It will soon enough though. I think its because I'm still stuck on the "my life sucks and is going nowhere" depressive stage. I probably will be fore a while. A fitting end to the semester...

I don't really know how to start this off, so I'll just dive right into it.

I did the hardest thing I've done in over a year and a half on thursday. I sang. I walked into Crouse (the music school) to drop some forms off at the band office, and I decided to stop off to see if any of my friends were there. Its funny how I know more people in the music school than both the history building and sci-tech combined. Downstairs I met up with Diane and Richie, who were doing they're convo stuff. We were just talking, and Diane drops the HCC question again, of whether or not I am going to audition. Band camp had essentially been "convince been to audition camp". Thursday was the last day of choral auditions. After a long time of them harrasing me, I semi-blew up at them. I hate being pressured into doing things, especially something that I'm so self conscience about as singing. I left, but came back shortly to apologize. We kept talking, and finnaly Richie just suggested that I try out, and see where I get placed. So we went into a practice room, and I sang some scales to get back into the swing of things. I thought I would suck, and I still think I sounded horrible at first. I've lost most of what I had, and it will take a lot of practice to get it back. But after singing a few exercises, I saw both Diane and Richie's eyes light up. They seemed almost stunned. I thought they were just trying to boost up my confidence, but it seemed genuine. After warming up, they both litteraly dragged me upstairs to the choral room.

So many things were racing through my head. All the memories of last year came rushing back to me. I was crushed last year, and I know all of you know it. Singing was the one thing I knew I did well, and like a slap to the face, last year told me that I was wrong. I never wanted to sing again. On the way up, I was more nervous than I had ever been. Every test, audition, performance, or life event paled in comparison. I was about to do something that I had told myself I'd never do again. There was a knew Choral director, so as I was filling out my audition form Diane went in and talked to the director. She introduced us, saying that I was her friend from band that was in HCC freshman year, and a non-music major, so thats why his sight singing is off (they both had a chuckle at that). So I auditioned. I sang the scales, did the whole sing back thing, and bombed the sight singing. The conductor looked at me with a very quizicall manor, and it just made me even more nervous. Then he did something I didn't expect. Instead of writing the copious notes that he did with everyone else, all he did was write "phenominal voice" next to what he deemed to be my acceptable range. We both said out thanks, shook hands, and left. I saw the same amazed look on Richie and Diane's face when I left that was on their face in the practice room. I ignored it and proceded on my way.

But that night at band practice, Diane said something that really stuck to me, and I'm still rolling it around in my head.

Diane: I really wish that when you had that whole "change my major" crisis last year you had switched to music. With some instruction you could easily be the best.
Me: At the school?
Diane: No, in the world.

I'll leave it on that, because I don't know what to think about that. If you think this is meladramatic, fuck off, its what was going through my head. I didn't write it to be arrogant, I just wanted to write about it. I hate arrogance. But post comments, I'm a comment whore.

Ok, its time for me to update.

Most of you know whats going on in my life, but for those of you who don't know, here is the rundown.

Road Trip 2005:

I showed Derrick and Uncle Vito around Newport Beach, pointing out the finer parts of my earlier life. We did the usual, Disneyland, the beach, Hollywood (which has, and always will suck ass). On tuesday, August 9th, we set out for Syracuse. We stopped in Las Cruces, NM and stayed with Jayme who graduated last year and is now doing the news down there. After that we drove at roughly a 40 degree angle across the U.S., stopping outside Springfield, Missouri. We meant to stop IN Springfield, but we accidentally drove right through it. Then we bee lined to Cleveland, staying at Stark's house. We were there for 3 nights, all the while going to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, an Indians game, a Browns game, and Cedar Point. At Cedar Point I shat my pants, as Stark to tell the story. Then we made the meager drive from Cleveland to Buffalo, stopping to get Duff's. After Buffalo, we stopped in Rochester to see Rachel (I can't say how good it was to see her again). Finnaly we made it back to Syracuse.

Shitiest state award: Texas. By far.
Longest driven in one day: 16 1/2 hours.
Food of the trip: Crunchrap supreme (Sonic's burgers honorable mention)

So after a week of boozing and buming around, band camp came, and band camp went. Not much to that except that its good not to be a rookie anymore, and I'm glad its over. Saturday I went to Rochester with Rachel for her little brother's birthday party. That was a blast, her family is a lot of fun. Plus it was great to spend a whole day with her, which I hadn't been able to do since we both got back. So we stayed a lot longer than planned, and I came back to a party at my house. School started today, and I'm already lost in my German class. The one history class I had today I'm a bit skeptical on, but the proffesor is supposed to one of the best, so more on that to come.

Now I'm sitting here doing laundry, hooray for me. So thats it for now, talk to me to hear many a great stories about the previously mentioned stuff.

Ok, so I just finished the book. And before everyone jumps up and says "omg you JUST finished the book???" from those of you obssesed with the book, thats my first beef with the book, well, more people associated with the book. Everyone is in a race to finish it. But that doesn't make sense to me. Why rush through something that you love so much, instead of enjoying it? If you have a box the most delicious cookies that you have been waiting to have for months, do you eat them all in one sitting? No, you take your time and enjoy them. And now, without further adieu, my thoughts on the book.

First lets start off with Harry himself. In the last book I lost a lot of faith in him, becoming a stereotypical, tortured hero. Every fantasy novel has one, but I thought that J.K. Rowling would be above that. The end of the last book relieved many of my worries with that, but this book banished all worries of that. Now I dislike Harry for a different reason. In the first few books, Harry remained humble despite his extraordianary situation, ie: the boy who lived. However, is this book, he seemed to think that it was up to him to solve all problems, that he trascended the law, and was above all rule. Now my question is, how does this differ from those who he fights against? The argument I've heard for this is that he does it for others, for a common good, and that the people he fights against do it for themselves. Truth is, they do it for a common goal too, it just happens to differ from Harry's. They feel, as Harry's does, that they must achieve their goals, whatever means necessary. Case and point, Harry using forbidden curses to put an end to Snape. Ends justify the means? I think not. By using the forbidden curses, Harry became no better than the Death Eaters he was trying to stop.

Ministry of magic making bogus arrests? Can we say political criticism on war on terror?

Death of Dumbledore. Ok, I could see this one coming a mile away. Foreshadowing up the ass lead me to believe someone was going to die. I wasn't sure if it was going to be Dumbledore or someone else, but I was pretty sure it was going to be Dumbledore.

Harry going out with Ginny? I'm extatic. I was so worried Rowling was going to fuck with that in the end, but she didn't and that made me really happy.

My big complaint for the book? Not so much the book, but with Rowling herself. I am kind of tired how she takes standard fantasy ideas, gives it her own name, and suddenly its a whole new original idea. Examples: Horcuxes - Phylactery. Infarious - Any undead name you can think of, zombie comes to mind. I don't know why, but this kind of irks me. But that was a beef I've had since the begining of reading these books, is how she trivializes fantasy ideas by turning them into the most stereotypical manor possible.

This isn't my complete thoughts, but I want feedback on what I've written so far. Feel free to comment, just be constructive.

So I think its time for a California update.

I'm here in Newport, bored. But what else is new. I started out working at The Newport Channel Inn, but only 25 hours a week. After realizing thats nothing, and isn't taking up any of my time, I bumped it up to 40 hours. So I'm "working" there. And by working, I mean I've watched Troy, Finding Nemo, CSI, and slept. Its a good job. At least they gave me a raise. Other than that, its summer as usual. Its kind of a switch from last summer where my dad was the one being a pain in the ass, this summer its my mom. I watch a lot of T.V., and play a lot of World of Warcraft. Wait, thats a lot like Syracuse, only I've finished all my books. Ok, so I got distracted by Futurama, and now I have to go to bed so I can wake up and drop trouser for a doctor tommorow.

I love Rochester and everything that goes along with it. Actually, more like someone that goes with it.

Great weekend, Renae came up, we chilled. It was great to see her. Then we went to Rochester to visit Rachel and bummed around there for the day. Today Tyler comes up, and I scrambled to clean around the house so he wouldn't beat me up. I think I did it to my standard at least. I never thought I'd be such a neat freak. I guess thats what comes from living in my own house.

So OMGsors! I leave back for CA Saturday. That snuck up on me like no other. My class is done this thursday, and I have a lot of stuff to do for it before then, but I'll get it done. But I'll be back in California the 2nd. Hooray for me! I'm looking forward to it. I have no idea what I'm going to be doing, but I'll find something to do. I will be working with my dad on set for a few of his commercial shoots, plus my brother got tickets to the Angels vs. Yankees series. Thats gonna be a lot of fun. But if you're in CA, let me know.

Does anyone else find it ironic that now that I have the time and desire to update my LJ, I don't have anything to update about? Same old on this side, still bored. Anyone want to talk about the crusades? I'm almost done with my 2nd book on it. I'm actually feeling really good about myself. I actually know a decent amount about something, and have my own ideas on it.

Simple warnimg. I don't update all that often. In fact, I think this is my first REAL update in a while. And its not really an update. Ok, yes its going to be, but not yet.

That being said, here's whats going on in my life.

Big bummer in my life. I was supposed to go boot camp this summer, but I failed a physical fitness test. It really sucks. Imagine having the next 4 years of your life go up in flames because you couldn't do two more pull ups. And its totally my fault, which is what hurts the most. But thats life. I move on.

I'm still in Syracuse for another 2 1/2 weeks, then I go home. I don't know what I'll do there, but I am going there. If you're in the home area, I don't care how long its been since we last spoke, we're gonna hang out. In fact, if I haven't spoken to you in a while, all the more reason to get together. I am so bored here. Theres only things to do at night. Once I'm done running in the morning, I have nothing to do until class. After class though, theres plenty. During the day, everyone is off doing their cool thing for the summer. I no longer have a cool thing to do for the summer, so I sit around. I practice singing. I practice the trombone. I've read 3 books. I've learned a lot about the crusades though, thats always a plus. How this will relate to my life, I don't know.

So thats my life. Please respond to this post. It will give me 7 seconds of entertainment, plus however long it takes to respond. I don't care what it says, just say something.

1. Read every authority on the crusades. I think this is what I want to speicalize in history on, so I want to read up and figure out more specifics on it.
2. Get in the best shape of my life.

6. Read: Angels and Demons, DaVinci Code, A Crown of Swords, everything necesary for goal #1.

Yeah, not much to me. For those of you that have not heard, I'm in Syracuse for summer school. Its rather nice. I take 1 class, at 4, every day except Friday. Other than that, I'm either watching T.V., or playing video games. I am starved for visitors other than my roomate, Gotti. So if you're in the Syracuse area, come visit me at 137 Clarendon. Update on my life:

1. Now a history major, loving every minute of it. My schedule for next year? HST210 - Ancient World, HST307 - U.S. In the Modern Age, HST320 - Traditional China, and either French or German.
2. I am going to Quantico, Virgina this summer to take the first step towards the next of my life. I am going to Marine bootcamp for 6 weeks this summer, and I can't wait. I'm really nervous, and I'm worried I won't be able to do it, but I can't wait to find out.

4. I don't know if I want to stay out here for the summer and take summer school. No other places in O.C. have credits that transfer to SU, and if they do, their summer school schedule doesn't work with my summer. I have a house, and lots of people out here, and I really want to stay (no offense to those in Cali, I love you all) but my mom would be crushed.
5. Life is good, full and stressfull, but good.

Wow, highlight of my weekend:

After playing at the Men's Basketball Game, and then Playing at the Women's Basketball game, I had to bring my trombone back to the dome room. I go through the stadium control entrance (feeling all cool like I always do when I go in through there), and the guy tells me to go right instead of left. This only happens when a team is practicing, or an event is going on, and its a pain in the ass. So I start my trek to the dome room, turn the corner, and who holds the door open for me? None other, than Jimmy B (the coach of SU Basktball), who had just won his 700th career win. This man is a god, and he talked to me. It was amazing. I was stunned all the way until I got home. Then I had to do work. So I was no longer stunned.
